"This is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:10

Health and fitness has been a part of my life for years. I have always enjoyed participating in athletics and resistance training but I have been even more fascinated studying about it. Having most of my family in the medical field, I decided to follow their lead but take a different approach.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology from Liberty University and participated in countless hours of internships with physicians, physical therapists and other fitness professionals to be able to do my job as effectively as possible. I started personal training in 2007 and have loved it since, expanding my areas of expertise throughout that time.

I absolutely love meeting with new clients and enjoy being by their side during the process of reaching their goal. I believe you should be fit on the outside and in, using your ONE body as a vessel to do God's work. Start your new era of fitness for yourself but more importantly for the glory of God.

Eddie Pinigis

"No discipline seems pleasant at the time..."

Growing up playing sports and then going on to play college football, I've been involved in exercise my whole life. Not always the strongest or most athletic, I heard a quote in high school that has since stuck with me: "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."

This inspired me to outwork everyone and helped me achieve my goal of playing at the collegiate level. After hanging up the cleats as an offensive lineman, I found the inner drive to lose over 50 pounds. Through changing my lifestyle and fitness routines I developed a passion to help others reach their goals. Over my five years of college football, I was able to obtain knowledge from some of the top strength and conditioning coaches in the country at both the University of Virginia and Liberty University.

The journey is not always easy whether it be physical or spiritual and that is why everyday I try to live by Hebrews 12:11, "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on; however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.", in hopes that my light will shine and inspire others.

Melody Hicks

Melody Hicks leads our new children's program at Crosswhite Fitness. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a Children's Ministries Specialization from Liberty University and is pursuing certification as a weight loss/nutrition practitioner. She has been working with children for 10 years in various capacities and has a desire to see children grow and accomplish what God has planned for their lives, while maintaining a healthy physical, mental, and spiritual lifestyle. Our children's program includes: 1) kids boot camps which involves fitness/circuit training and sports conditioning; 2) one-on-one mentoring program; 3) customized birthday parties in our pavilion; 4) parent's night out.

Melody shares: "Since I was young, I've known that God has called me to work with children. I've been a pastor's kid, watching my dad minister to people made my passion expand. I have worked with children in countless environments and churches, with hundreds of internship hours. Over the past 2 years, God has been with me on an amazing life-changing journey. I've lost 150 pounds with the help of my trainer Ben Crosswhite. In these 2 years, I have gained so much knowledge while training under him and from my personal weight loss experience. Through my training, research/education about different methods and nutrition and speaking opportunities, an excitement has been building within me to share and teach what I have learned with our young people. I could think of no greater place to launch my children's program than at the gym that changed my life. I have no doubt that I can help and support your children in their journey toward lifelong fitness, as they pursue and maintain a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and eating right, while they receive encouragement to focus on God's will for their life. I know what it's like to struggle in fitness, but more importantly I know what it's like to excel in fitness. My struggle has become my passion and my strength comes through Christ: 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'" (Philippians 4:13).

"And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you."
1 Peter 5:10

Ever since I can remember, athletics has been a significant part of my life. Although I have always been an active person; true fitness was never a priority of mine until the early years of college. While studying Exercise Science at Liberty University I developed a profound respect for God's ingenious design of the human body and became fascinated of what it can accomplish. With this new perspective I then decided to make not only athletics, but also true fitness a priority in my life.

I have always loved to see motivated people reach their goals and this is why I love my job. As a Certified Exercise Physiologist and Licensed Massage Therapist I am now equipped to assist clients in reaching their fitness goals, as well as helping them reduce chronic pain that they may be having. God has not called us to simply live, he has called us to abundant life and this is why we must better ourselves every day.

"There is no substitute for hard work."

I grew up here in Forest, Va where I was active as a kid playing basketball and other sports. My love for athletics grew to include strength and conditioning when I realized the power and control it gave me over my life. I went on to attend Bridgewater College, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health & Exercise Science. It was during this time in my life that my passion for fitness blossomed and my career began. I am now attending Liberty University, where I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Exercise Science. My goal is to expand my knowledge so that I can provide the best possible service to members of our community. I want to help others experience the life changing impact that living a healthy lifestyle can have on your life. Through consistency, effort, focus, and determination, each person has the ability to create a life that they can be proud of. My greatest source of inspiration is striving to walk the path that the Lord has set before me, so that I can see God's will fulfilled in my life. Changing your life is not an easy task, but if you surround yourself with support and realize that your life has a greater purpose, then you can sustain the entire journey and reach your destination.

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Lindsay Tobias - Vice President of Corporate Wellness

I get to work alongside companies to encourage wellness and to promote sustained and educated change in different environments. I also am working as a Certified Exercise Physiologist, and I love investing in the health of my clients.

I grew up in sunny South Florida and have had a drive towards health since I was a little girl. I started training for volleyball and fell in love with not only the game, but also the realization that you can get better at everything that you do. I was never the strongest, the fastest, or the best, but I made it a goal to outwork everyone I could. I got the privilege to play Division 1 volleyball at Liberty University, where I graduated with a degree in Exercise Science. I then worked to get certified in nutrition, and am now in further education pursuing a holistic nutrition certification as well. I believe that health is multifaceted and our approach to health should be the same. There is no one fits all approach to health, nutrition, or fitness, and my job is to work to find how to EACH individual will find the most success.

"I plan to never stop learning in this field, and never stop sharing all I can give to others."

Joshua Bahos Silva

I didn’t really grow up playing sports. I was the overweight kid that would struggle with exercise. As I got older, I wasn’t satisfied with where I was physically and decided to make a change. After experimenting with different workout methods all throughout middle school and high school, I decided that I wanted to take my education further at Liberty University.  Four years later, I graduated from LU with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and certifications as both an Exercise Physiologist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Now, I am dedicated to bettering both myself and those around me through every aspect of fitness. I want to show the benefits of living an active lifestyle, and to emphasize the fact that exercise truly is medicine in its own unique way. I have seen the benefits of hard work and exercise in my own life, and I am thankful for the strength God has given me to train my body. I want to take my passion for fitness and instill that within the people I come into contact with on a regular basis so that we can come together to honor God with our bodies.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)

Larry brings an extensive amount of knowledge and diverse athletic experiences. This ranges from his national level running career, personal strength training program, and being an active member of the Dire Wolf cycling team.

Starting in high school he earned All-State recognition for his efforts in cross country and track and field. He then continued his running career at Lynchburg College. Through his efforts and meticulous work ethic, Larry was a three-time national qualifier and five-time All-Conference performer. Specializing in the distance events his best times include 4:16 in the mile, 14:55 in the 5k. He is still a very active member of the local and regional road racing scene.

As a supplement to his weekly running program, Larry stressed the importance that a individualized weight training program impacted his own athletic performance. “During college individual programs were tailored to each athlete which is why I feel I had such great success. I believe that these programs gave me the upper hand against my competition and minimized my risk for injury.”

Larry’s wealth of knowledge and experience brings unique dynamic to Crosswhite’s already impressive staff. We are happy he is part of our team and excited for the possibilities he is able to offer.
